Joe Biden has committed, if elected, to create an administration that will look more like America. He began by choosing Kamala Harris as his Vice Presidential running mate. Her career and accomplishments deem her more than qualified to serve as Vice President.
Her entire career has been devoted to serving people. Being a woman of color will undoubtedly make her more sensitive to the major issues currently in the forefront of our country.
Given their records of public service, we may rest assured that a Biden administration would never separate children from their parents, put them in cages, cover them with sheets of aluminum, and rationalize these actions by claiming they will deter illegal immigration.
We further know that a woman of color serving as Vice President would truly understand when black parents, concerned about the safety and well being of their children, cry out the words “Black Lives Matter”.
A fair criminal justice system is one of the pillars of a democratic society. Kamala Harris has spent most of her professional life in law enforcement, starting as an Assistant District Attorney and rising to become District Attorney of San Francisco.
After serving eight years in that office, she was elected Attorney General of the State of California. Her experience allows her to appreciate the professionalism, virtue, and benefit of a dedicated law enforcement officer. Conversely, she is acutely aware how destructive and pervasive a biased law enforcement official could be to our system of justice.
We have an opportunity to elect leaders who have demonstrated qualities of character, integrity, and concern for the welfare of the people they govern. We desperately need leaders who would be guided by these principles of humanity.
Our current President lacks these essential leadership traits. He is the primary reason that the U.S. has been more affected by the pandemic than other advanced nations. He turns a deaf ear to communities across the nation calling out for racial justice. His failed leadership during this pandemic has driven our economy to the verge of an economic depression.
We have the power to make this critical change in leadership. We can return our country to the path of seeking a more perfect union. Our power lies in our ability to vote.
