“What the hell do you have to lose?” This condescending remark by Donald Trump to African-Americans has but one answer: “PLENTY.”
Health Care
According to a study by the Brookings Institute, African-American deaths from Covid-19 are 3.6x higher than the rate among whites. African-American’s comprise 13 % of the US population yet account for 23% of the total deaths, per the CDC. In addition to the incompetently led Covid-19 task force, the Trump Administration, as well as the Republican Senate are still in court trying to eliminate Obamacare.
Living Conditions
Members of racial and ethnic minorities are more likely to live in densely populated areas because of institutional racism due to housing segregation. Unscrupulous and/or racist developers and landlords have been instrumental in perpetuating this condition. Donald Trump and his notoriously racist father, Fred Trump, lost numerous cases in court for denying minorities from renting/buying in their developments.
Voting Rights
The Republican-controlled State Houses continue to eliminate polling stations in African-American communities, as well as eliminating or minimizing early voting. The Administration’s Justice Department has repeatedly sided with states that support gerrymandering and voter ID laws.
