“U.S. global reputation hits rock-bottom over Trump’s coronavirus response”
The Guardian
By: Simon Tisdall, April 12, 2020
“International relations expert warns policy failure could do lasting damage as president insults allies and undermines alliances. Donald Trump’s response to the coronavirus pandemic, which he once dismissed as a hoax, has been fiercely criticised at home as woefully inadequate to the point of irresponsibility. Yet also thanks largely to Trump, a parallel disaster is unfolding across the world: the ruination of America’s reputation as a safe, trustworthy, competent international leader and partner. Call it the Trump double-whammy. Diplomatically speaking, the US is on life support.”

“Image of U.S. Leaderhsip Now Poorer Than China’s”
Gallup
By Julie Ray, February 28, 2019
“At the halfway mark of Donald Trump’s presidency, a new Gallup report shows the image of U.S. leadership is in poor shape, but its approval ratings are no longer in free fall.
After tumbling to a record-low 30% during the first year of Trump’s presidency, the image of the U.S. is still as poor in his second. The median global approval rating that adults across 133 countries and areas give the job performance of U.S. leadership remained stable at 31% in 2018.”

“The World Continues to Disapprove of America’s Leadership”
U. S. News and World Reports
By Sintia Rady, Staff Writer, February 28, 2019
“After previously reporting a decade-high level of disapproval of U.S. leadership in 2017 (43 percent in more than 130 countries), Gallup, the Washington, D.C.-based global polling firm, released a new survey on Thursday showing that the world still doesn’t seem fond of U.S. foreign policy. The poll of adults in 133 countries, including the U.S., showed the median level of disapproval of American leadership remains at 40 percent. In contrasts, U.S. citizens’ approval of American foreign policy lingered around the same decade-low level of 30 percent recorded in 2017.”

Business Insider
By John Haltiwanger, July 22, 2018
“President Donald Trump’s recent trip to Europe is under a great deal of scrutiny after he clashed with key allies and had a controversial meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.”
“In this context, many are concerned Trump is doing immense damage to America’s global standing.”
“A majority of Americans (61%) feel the US is less respected across the globe with Trump in the White House, according to an NBC News/SurveyMonkey poll released Wednesday.”
Experts warn it could take “years” for the world to trust the US again as Trump continues to attack the international institutions it played a fundamental role in building following World War II.
