Donald Trump has said the U.S. is doing more testing than any other country. This is a lie, especially on a per capita basis.
Donald Trump has repeatedly defended his handling of the pandemic by saying he shut down travel from China. This is partly true. He did sign off on a travel ban in late January, but allowed over 40,000 U.S. citizens to return from China.
Any one of those travelers could have been infected, and there was no follow-up or contact tracing once they arrived. Additionally, most cases on the East Coast came from European travelers. The ban on incoming European flights didn’t happen until March 11, and it caused chaos.
Donald Trump recently said he told “his people” to slow down COVID-19 testing. Unfortunately this appears to be true, as he has doubled down on the statement saying he doesn’t “kid around.”
Donald Trump says he doesn’t like too much testing because it “makes the numbers look bad.” Unfortunately, this too is true.
Donald Trump says that if we didn’t do as much testing we wouldn’t have as many cases. By that logic, if you don’t take a pregnancy test, you aren’t really pregnant?
What’s more important: keeping people healthy and saving lives, or Donald Trump’s ego and numbers?
